[Vipera palestinae vascular endothelial growth factor] This growth factor has been isolated from the venom of Vipera palestinae (Brown et al, 2007). vpVEGF potently stimulates proliferation of dermal human microvascular endothelial cells by acting through VEGFR2. vpVEGF appears to be a chemoattractant for migration of these cells and stimulates their radial migration in a collagen gel. In vivo, vpVEGF induces angiogenesis in a Japanese quail assay and in a Matrigel plug assay in mice. The activity of vpVEGF is blocked by ES-CRISP isolated from Echis carinatus sochureki venom (Lecht et al, 2015).
