[phasic neuron]
This term refers to the electrophysiological behaviour of neurons and describes one way in which action potentials are emitted from these cells. Phasic neurons or phasic cells, unlike tonic neurons, show transient responses and generate action potentials for a brief time period at the onset of a stimulus and regardless of stimulus amplitude or duration (and hence behave as ON-cells) and signal detectors.
