peptidyl-dipeptidase A |
CKII beta-binding protein 1 |
||
This zinc metallopeptidase is an exopeptidase that sequentially removes dipeptides from the C -terminus of its substrates (Soffer, 1976). The enzyme is the same as ACE [angiotensin-converting enzyme] (for overview see: Corvol et al, 1995). A previously used gene symbol is DCP1 [dipeptidyl carboxypeptidase 1].
The classical physiological substrates of peptidyl dipeptidase A are angiotensin-1, which is converted to the vasopressor angiotensin-2, and bradykinin, which is inactivated.
In addition, the enzyme can act also as an endopeptidase with certain C-terminally amidated peptides, being able to cleave, for example substance P
