[growth arrest and DNA damage induced gene-153] This hamster gene belongs to the family of GADD genes the expression of which is induced by various genotoxic and non-genotoxic stresses.
The gene is known also as DDIT3 [DNA damage-inducible transcript-3] (Fornace et al, 1992) or CHOP [C/EBP-homologous protein] or CHOP-10 (Ron and Habener, 1992) and has been described also as C/EBP-zeta [CCAAT/enhancer binding protein zeta] (Ramji and Foka, 2002). The human and hamster gadd153 proteins share 91 % identity (78 % identity in nucleotide sequence (Park et al, 1992; Luethy et al, 1990).
