This term, a neologism coined from emperipolesis and apoptosis, refers to a kind of cell death by apoptosis observed to occur in NK-cells that have been engulfed by tumor cells (see also: cell-in-cell death). This kind of cell death depends on the expression of caspases. It has been observed to occur only in cytotoxic NK-cells expressing granzyme B and is attributed to the re-uptake of Granzyme B by NK-cells themselves. Granzyme B suppresses the lysosome-mediated cell death process (known as Entosis). NK-cells from knock-out
