This peptide (IAGVGGEKSGGF) is a cryptic peptide derived from the alpha subunit of the collagen-3. The peptide sequence is highly conserved in collagen-3-alpha among eight mammalian species, including humans (Agrawal et al, 2011). The peptide is chemotactic for perivascular stem cells in vitro and causes the site-directed accumulation of progenitor cells in vivo.
