Three peptides, designated
CPRF-Ea (GLGSILGKILNVAGKVGKTIGKVADAVGNKE),
CPRF-Eb, (GLGSFLKNAIKIAGKVGSTIGKVADAIGNKE),
CPRF-Ec, (GLGSFFKNAIKIAGKVGSTIGKVADAIGNKE)
have been isolated from Rana esculenta, a hybrid between Rana ridibunda and Rana lessonae. They are derived from the caerulein precursor. All peptides potently and selectively inhibit the growth of the Gram-positive bacterium Escherichia coli (Ali et al, 2003).
