albutensin A (AFKAWAVAR) corresponds to human serum albumin(210-218) from which it is obtained by digestion with trypsin or chymotrypsin. The peptide has been identified as an inhibitor of angiotensin-1 converting enzyme (CD143) and therefore may have hypotensive activity (Nakagomi et al, 2000).
Nakagomi et al (2002) have identified this albumin fragment as an inhibitor for cathepsin B.
Ohinata et al (2002) have reported that Albutensin A decreases food intake after intracerebroventricular or peripheral administration in fasted conscious ddY mice. Albutensin A delays gastric emptying and elevates blood glucose levels. The inhibitory effect of albutensin A on food intake is mediated through the C3a
