[vitellogenesis-inhibiting hormone]; also: GIH [gonad-inhibiting hormone] (hence often gonad/vitellogenesis-inhibiting hormone). This crustacean neurohormone (78 amino acids) is a member of a peptide family that also comprises CHH [crustacean hyperglycaemic hormone], MIH [molt-inhibiting hormone], and MIH [molt-inhibiting hormone], and MOIH [mandibular organ-inhibiting hormone] (Soyez et al, 1991; Keller 1992; Webster et al, 2012). GIH is present also in male lobsters and therefore must have other bioactivities (De Kleijn et al, 1992).
