[Tumor necrosis factor receptor-associated factors] TRAF proteins are signal transducers that associate with the cytoplasmic domains of members of the tumor necrosis factor (TNF) receptor superfamily and modulate the signaling pathways in response to receptor engagement. All TRAF proteins contain a C-terminal homology region of 230 amino acids, designated the TRAF domain (Rothe et al, 1994), which is involved in a variety of specific protein-protein interactions (receptor association and oligomerization). With the exception of TRAF1 the amino termini of the proteins have a RING finger domain, a cluster with several copies of a zinc finger and a coiled-coil domain. For an inhibitor of TRAF
