This compound is a broad spectrum inhibitor for caspases. Q-VD-OPh is not toxic to cells even at extremely high concentrations. Q-VD-OPh consists of a carboxy terminal phenoxy group conjugated to the amino acids valine and aspartate. The compound is a potent inhibitor of cell death by apoptosis and is significantly more effective in preventing apoptosis than ZVAD-fmk and Boc-D-fmk. It is equally effective in preventing apoptosis
