[prion protein(106-126)] This peptide of 21 amino acids (KTNMKHMAGAAAAGAVVGGLG) is derived from prion protein and has been reported to mimic the biological activity of the pathologic isoform of prion protein and activates mononuclear phagocytes. Since PrP(106-126) retains the neurotoxic properties of the entire pathological Prion protein it is generally used as a reasonable model to study the mechanisms responsible for prion diseases.
