[Proviral Integration of Moloney virus] The pim gene, originally reported as p33pim (Amson et al, 1989), is an oncogene encoding a cytoplasmic non-receptor serine/threonine kinase (34 kDa, 313 amino acids) (Selten et al, 1986; Meeker et al, 1987; Hoover et al, 1991; Friedman et al, 1992) that is expressed primarily in B-lymphoid and myeloid cell lines. It has been shown that viral leukemogenesis in mice is initiated frequently by proviral activation of the highly conserved cellular gene pim-1. The human pim-1 gene and the murine retroviral insertion site mpim-1 are homologous (Domen et al, 1987). Human
