This protein is known also as Pierisin-B. This protein has been isolated from tissue extracts of the cabbage butterfly Pieris brassicae (Matsushima-Hibiya et al, 2000). The protein is related to Pierisin-1, displaying 91 % sequence identity. The protein induces cell death by apoptosis in various human cancer cell lines. Like Pierisin-1, the protein is thought to be a toxin acting through ADP ribosylation (for related proteins see also: Pierisin-3, Pierisin-4, Pierisin-5, Pierisin-6).
