abbr. PSF (a term with multiple meanings), also P-Factor. Persisting cells (P cells) resembling mast cells appear in cultures of murine lymphoid or bone marrow cells and are capable of long-term growth in vitro in the presence of a T-cell derived growth factor (Clark-Lewis and Schrader, 1981; Schrader et al, 1981, 1985; Schrader and Crapper, 1983; Schrader and Clark-Lewis et al, 1982). This factor (also abbr. PCSF) stimulates the proliferation of many types of hematopoietic progenitor cells (see also: hematopoiesis) including the pluripotential hematopoietic stem cells
