This antimicrobial peptide (GLPRKILCAIAKKKGKCKGPLKLVCKC, 2 disulfide bridges) has been found in the venom of eusocial bee Lasioglossum laticeps (Monincová, 2012). Synthetic lasiocepsin has been shown to be active against both Gram-positive bacteria and Gram-negative bacteria. It displays antifungal activity against Candida albicans, and is not hemolytic for human erythrocytes. Studies with Bacillus subtilis cells treated by lasioceps show leakage of bacterial contents mainly from the holes localized at the ends of the bacterial cells.
