This protein is a member of the family of serine proteases known as granzymes. The approved gene symbol is GZMK. The enzyme is known also as granzyme 3, isolated originally from IL2 activated human NK-cells (Hameed et al, 1998) and cloned by Przetak et al, 1995), or tryptase-2 (Sayers et al, 1996). The protein has been identified independently as fragmentin-3. Suemoto et al (1999) have identified a cDNA for brain type granzyme K (abbr. B-GRK). The encoded protein is similar to granzyme K but has a completely different N-terminus and probably is an alternative transcription form of granzyme K. B-GRK
