[Folliculo-stellate cell]
abbr. FSC, FS cells. These star-shaped and follicle-forming and agranular cells are found in the anterior pituitary (Allaerts et al, 1990; Herkenham, 2005; Horvath and Kovacs, 2002; Inoue et al, 1999; Soji et al, 1997). Follico-stellate cells can develop from a rate population of multipotent progenitor cell or stem cell population persisting in the adult pituitary (Fauquier et al, 2008).
Folliculo-stellate cells are considered functionally and phenotypically heterogeneous (Allaerts et al, 1996, 1997; Yamashita et al, 2005).
