This is derived from the fourth FAS1 domain (fasciclin-1 domain) of Beta-IG-H3 [TGF-beta-inducible gene H3] (Nam et al, 2005). Fastatin inhibits adhesion and migration of endothelial cells to Beta-IG-H3, fibronectin, and vitronectin. The RGD sequence that can serve as a ligand recognition site for several integrins is required.
Fastatin suppress endothelial cell tube formation and in vivo neovascularization in a Matrigel plug assay. The antiangiogenic activity of fastatin is associated with antitumor activity in mouse tumor models.
Fastatin also induces cell death by apoptosis
