[Echinococcus granulosus tegumental protein] This protein of 105 amino acids has been identified by screening a cDNA library of Echinococcus granulosus with IgG4 from patients with active cystic echinococcosis (Ortona et al, 2005).
EgTeg is localized in the protoscolex tegument and on the germinal layer of cyst wall. EgTeg appears to be involved in immune invasion during chronic infection. EgTeg significantly inhibits polymorphonuclear cell chemotaxis, favours the generation of T-cells producing IL4, and induces the production IgG4 (noncomplement fixing antibodies).
