[Extracellular matrix receptor-6; class 6 ECMR] ECMR-6 is an extracellular matrix receptor shown to be involved in cell adhesion by virtue of its ability to bind collagen and fibronectin. Wayner et al (1988) have shown that the alpha chain of this receptor is identical with the activation antigen VLA-5. The beta-chain of ECMR-6 is VLA-beta (CD29). The authors have suggested that this antigen be called FNR [fibronectin receptor].
In the nomenclature of CD antigens the alpha subunit of ECMR-6 has been given the designation CD49e.
