This antimicrobial peptide, KRFKKFFKKVKKSVKKRLKKIFKKPMVIGVTIPF, from the venom gland of the South American pit viper Crotalus durissus terrificus belongs to the family of snake cathelicidins (so-called vipericidins) and is active against Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Enterococcus faecalis, Staphylococcus aureus, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Acinetobacter baumannii, and Streptococcus pyogenes.
