CAP-1 [Cardioacceleratory Peptide 1] and CAP-2 [Cardioacceleratory Peptide 2] are two peptides of the tobacco hawkmoth, Manduca sexta. They are produced by neurons terminating in blind neurohemal endings along the segmentally repeated perivisceral organs, which are the primary neurohemal release site of the insect ventral nerve cord and function in vivo as cardioregulatory neurohormones. (Tublitz and Truman, 1985, 1985; Tublitz and Evans, 1986). Tublitz et al (1992) have shown that CAP-2 is a myoregulatory peptide causing hindgut contractions.
