(colony-forming units) These cells are detected in an assay system using conditioned medium from rat AD-1-19T fibroblasts, which produces a cocktail of cytokines, mainly GM-CSF, M-CSF, SCF, small amounts of IL1, IL6, but no IL3.
Normal bone marrow cells give rise to large colonies (see also: Colony formation assay) in the presence of the cocktail of cytokines with high cloning efficiency.
