This is the same as CD79-alpha (Engel and Tedder, 1994). Other designations:
CD79a is an integral membrane protein that is highly conserved among many species (Sims et al, 2012). CD79a together with CD79b can induce the early stages of B-cell maturation and maintain B-cell survival in the periphery (Monroe, 2006; Kraus et al, 2004).
CD79a forms a disulfide-linked heterodimer with CD79b (Koyama et al, 1997), and non-covalently assembles together with membrane bound IgM to form the B-cell
