This carbohydrate antigen is expressed on myeloid cells and monocytes. CD65 or CD65s are absent from CFU-GEMM or BFU-E and appear at the late CFU-GM and myeloblast stage (Macher and Beckstead; 1990; Bordessoule et al, 1993; Delwel et al, 1987; Kishimoto et al, 1998).
CD65 is a fucosylated carbohydrate antigen on the cell surface. It is formed by fucosylation of the inner lactosamine unit of alpha-2,3-sialylated polylactosamine by alpha-1,3-fucosyltransferase (Bordessoule et al, 1993; Niemela et al, 1998; Kono et al, 1997).
