This family of glycoproteins comprises evolutionarily related cell surface molecules expressed on a variety of myeloid cells. All family members have a single immunoglobulin-like domain (Clark et al, 2009). Some members of this family form pairs and act as triggering receptors whereas others have inhibitory functions. Martínez-Barriocanal et al (2010) have reported that all members of this family can form homodimeric and heterodimeric complexes with other members through interactions between their immunoglobulin-like domains, suggesting complex differential modulation of signaling responses following the cell activation of myeloid cells upon interaction with their natural ligands.
Members of this family have been described under various names and not all members have received a CD300 designation.
