[C-C-Intercrine]
A name sometimes given to some members of the family of chemotactic cytokines known as Chemokines and comprise a variety of factors with chemotactic (see: Chemotaxis) and pro-inflammatory activities (see: inflammation). The C-C refers to the characteristic spacing of two neighboring cysteine residues, which is conserved in members of this group. These factors are encoded by genes for the SCY family of cytokines. The name intercrines has been superseded entirely by the new nomenclature naming these factors chemokines. For another systematic nomenclature see: SCY family of cytokines.
