This cell line has been established from a malignant melanoma lymph node metastasis of a 43 year old male. The cells are highly invasive and can be used as a source of cellular proteins associated with invasion (interstitial collagenase, TIMP-2), which they appear to produce constitutively (Brown et al, 1990; Templeton et al, 1990).
The autocrine motility factor AMF (Autotaxin) has been isolated from the conditioned medium of these cells (Liotta et al, 1986). This cell line has been used extensively for cell biological studies.
