[adherens junction cell adhesion molecule] This protein of 130 kDa has been identified by Volk and Geiger (1984) and shown to be localized to cellular adherens junctions. A-CAM is a calcium-dependent adherens junction-specific membrane glycoprotein that is involved in intercellular adhesion in these sites (Volk and Geiger, 1986, 1986).
The protein is identical with N-cadherin (Cadherin-2). In the nomenclature of CD antigens In the nomenclature of CD antigens the protein has been given the designation CD325.
